Greetings, fellow bird lover!

My name is Randy Wei, and I’m an award-winning wildlife photographer who has been fascinated by birds and nature ever since my first visit to Costa Rica in 2017. Since then, my vision has been to create a place that combines the natural beauty and wildlife of Costa Rica with a spiritual retreat and spa that soothes the soul – especially for designed for bird photographers. Introducing Arte de Plumas!

Arte de Plumas is located in the tiny town of Turrialba, Costa Rica with 65 acres of land, 85% of which is protected primary forest with a rich wildlife environment. It is surrounded by rainforest and river streams that crisscross the paths of many birds species moving across the land from different elevations during different seasons.

Here you can photograph the most beautiful birds in the world in their natural habitat. And to help you capture the most dynamic and unforgettable photography at Arte de Plumas, we’ve set up special spots like a humming bird garden, butterfly garden, small birds’ feeding station, big birds’ feeding station, and other special areas inside the forest so you are guaranteed an amazing one-of-a-kind experience you’ll never forget!

To make it even more memorable, you can book a custom-guided tour with our manager Andrey Madrigal, who is one of the most knowledgeable birding experts on the island. He can take you around Arte de Plumas or anywhere in Costa Rica with a special tour extension.

I also offer a private workshop experience which includes understanding bird behavior, where and how to set up your camera, how to best process your images and enhance them with Photoshop. Please contact us for details on the private workshop experience

OUR SERVICES
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Breakfast, coffee, juice, water A light breakfast consisting of mixed-nut cereal, coffee, juice, water is included. Lunch and/or Dinner catering provided by request ($15/each).
Birds Count Daily Update
On a daily basis, we update the number and species of seen birds so you know what to expect.
Daily Housekeeping
Includes free laundry cleaning and folding service (tipping appreciated).

Complimentary wi-fi provided during the length of your stay.
Nature stream spa

​Within and along the Arte de Plumas property, there are various streams and waterfalls you can enjoy at your leisure. A relax full body massage service can be reserve at $50/hr.
Guided Birding Tour
You’ll find a variety of colorful birds all along the trails within property and nearby locations. Available local guides through booking at $60/half day and $110/full day.
Night photography
For night photography enthusiasts, there are bats and other nocturnal animals like the marguey, a small wild cat, all around the rainforest.
Macro photography
Arte de Plumas is also the perfect place to find and photograph well-known tree frogs, glass frogs, butterflies, rare insects, and a variety of other incredible creatures.
Birds Photography
Along with opportunities throughout the 65-acre surrounding rainforest, we’ve set up separate platforms in special areas to capture specific species like humming birds, warblers, tanagers, toucans and others where you could spend your whole day shooting.
Special hides
We also have special hides set up that are designed to capture bird behavior that you can only see during certain seasons, like mating dances, building nests, or feeding their young.
